What is the difference between eyelash extensions and a lash lift?
This is a very common question among woman interested in beauty treatments and a great one at that!
Let's begin with eyelash extensions. What are they and how do they benefit me? Eyelash extensions are a material that is attached to your natural lash to create curl, thickness and/or length. There are many different brands and types, but the most important aspect to be aware of when choosing a lash artist is that they will protect your natural lash health. Think of eyelash extensions like acrylic nails or hair extensions, they are applied to enhance what you already have :)
Many women choose to wear extensions on a regular basis as it allows them to wear little to no makeup and still look alive, awake, and put-together. All words many of my customers have used to describe how their extensions make them feel and look.
Eyelash extensions should never be painful or uncomfortable when professionally applied. They are attached to one individual natural lash about 1-2mm from the natural lash line to allow for natural lash growth and shedding.
How is a lash lift different from eyelash extensions? There are two big differences that come to mind. The first being that a lash lift curls your NATURAL lashes and there is no enhancement or attachment to the natural lash, only an application of a perm solution specifically formulated for the eye area.
A lash lift can last from 8-10 weeks and it is recommended that a customer come in every 8 weeks for a touch-up. Eyelash extensions tend to last about 3-4 weeks before needing to "refill" a set so that they continue to look fresh and beautiful.
Oftentimes, the maintenance is a deciding factor in choosing which service best suits your needs. Keep in mind that if you have short or sparse lashes, a lash lift will not be very dramatic and you may not see much of a difference. One of the best ways to determine this is to apply mascara to your natural lashes. If the mascara enhances your natural lashes and your are able to see them with the naked eye, you are more than likely a good candidate for a lift.
